How long does the tour take?
The individual City Sightseeing ticket is valid for 24 hours from the time it is activated. Your ticket will normally be activated when it is first scanned by a member of the Edinburgh Bus Tours team.
Where does the tour start?
The main departure point is Waterloo Place, Stop ZG, just off Princes Street. However, you may begin your journey at any designated City Sightseeing stop along the route.
Can I hop on and off?
Yes. You can leave the bus to explore Edinburgh’s attractions and rejoin the tour later at any designated stop while your ticket remains valid.
How often do the buses run?
From 29 March to 31 October 2026, buses are currently scheduled to operate approximately every 7–10 minutes. During the winter timetable, services operate approximately every 20 minutes. Timetables may change, so customers should check the latest operating information before travelling.
Is entry to the attractions included?
No. This ticket covers the City Sightseeing bus tour only. Admission to attractions such as Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse must be purchased separately.
What languages are available?
Recorded commentary is available in nine languages. Headphones are provided on board.
Is there commentary for children?
Yes. Children can enjoy a special Horrible Histories commentary narrated by author Terry Deary, featuring Edinburgh’s history with plenty of its more gruesome and entertaining details included.
Do I need to print my ticket?
No. Your booking confirmation can be displayed and scanned directly from your mobile device.
Can I reserve a seat?
No. Seats cannot be reserved and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Is the tour wheelchair accessible?
The tour buses have low-floor ramped access and designated wheelchair spaces. Wheelchair users have priority for the accessible spaces. Class 2 mobility scooters may also be accepted, subject to available space.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes. Well-behaved dogs, including assistance dogs, are welcome on board.
I cannot print my online voucher, what should I do?
You do not need to print them as these can be scanned from your mobile device to obtain your valid tickets. If you need assistance please ask our ticket sellers on Waterloo Place who will be happy to help.
Do I need to use my bus ticket on the date I select when booking?
No. Although you will be asked to select a date during the booking process, your ticket can be used on any day. The ticket is valid for 6months.
When does my 24-hour ticket start?
Your 24-hour access begins from the moment your ticket is first scanned when you board the bus, not from the date or time selected when booking.
